Strasburg gets roughed up after DL stint
WASHINGTON, D.C. – It is easy to forget that Stephen Strasburg(notes) is barely 22, that he has been a professional pitcher for five months and that while he fires a thunderbolt of a fastball it isn’t always going to crackle the way he would like. And sometimes that fastball is going to get hit. As it did Tuesday night. Everything has happened so fast in football jersey Strasburg’s first season that there was bound to be a letdown, maybe even danger signs. Some things are not meant to be rushed, like a young pitcher’s growth.
Maybe he made it seem easy, the way he careened through two minor-league levels and six weeks of the majors heaving his 100 mph fastball past hitters, liquefying their knees with his curve. He gave everyone reason to believe he could defy the process, even when it was ludicrous to think a pitcher could stomp through major league hitters so effortlessly.
But the way he made so many of them look so foolish gave rise to the ridiculous: this thought that he was an All Star after a month in the big leagues, this fantasy that he was so blessed with an ability so magical as to defy nature.
“We raised the bar very high for Stephen, perhaps unfairly,” Nationals manager Jim Riggleman said.
Then came that strange evening in the bullpen at Nationals Park two weeks ago when something didn’t feel right in Strasburg’s shoulder, followed by days of examinations, the disabled list and the held breath of an organization desperate to create a legacy in Washington. When he walked out to warm up before Tuesday’s game on a sticky summer night, it might have been the most anticipated moment in the franchise’s brief time in Washington.
Would he break?
Would he scream in pain clutching his shoulder?
Instead he got pounded. As rookie pitchers do.
He couldn’t put his fastball where he wanted it. His curveball floated too far and too flat in the humidity. And the Marlins hitters crushed everything. Hanley Ramirez(notes) hit a ball so hard off the right-field fence he was almost thrown out at second base. Dan Uggla(notes) hit a double that was struck even harder than his first-inning home run, each of Kansas City Chiefs jersey which drove in two runs. Strasburg looked dazed.
And because Strasburg had dominated every profe ssional game he pitched this year at three levels, it was an odd sensation. Almost as if he didn’t know what to do. Is there a problem? Is Strasburg all right?
“It just wasn’t his night,” Riggleman sighed.
But too much is on Strasburg right now for him to have off-nights. He can’t simply be the best rookie pitcher in baseball: he must also be the savior of the Nationals, the cornerstone of a team that still can’t grab the Washington market the way everyone anticipated when it arrived her in 2005. Even if he is still in his first professional season.
On Tuesday, as the Marlins rocketed Strasburg’s pitches all over Nationals Park, the scoreboard hyped Thursday night’s promotion: a DVD of Strasburg’s first Major League start. His name was shouted in the stands. The first foul ball into the stands was caught by a man wearing a Strasburg jersey. He was cheered by hundreds of others also wearing Strasburg jerseys.
It’s all too much.
Probably no pitcher belongs in the majors so soon after the amateur ranks. But Washington wanted its golden prodigy and the Nationals needed to ignite a moribund franchise. And because Strasburg was striking out everybody anyway, he was rushed up to do the same in the big leagues.
Hopefully he will get a chance to be a rookie again, to look dumb on nights when nothing works and he’s watching his best fastball sail into the bleachers. There’s still so much for him to learn and for the Nationals to understand about their baseball messiah. He mysteriously seemed to imply that the injury was the result of neglecting his body, not doing enough to take care of Jacksonville Jaguars jersey himself. He said he planned on “definitely taking a professional approach” to fitness.
When someone asked McCatty how Strasburg handles adversity, McCatty stared blankly at the question.

Stallworth: ‘Be cognizant of your decisions’
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Sometimes, early in the morning, just as the sun climbs over the water, Steve Boucher rises to take the drive. He does not know why he does this, except that he has done it more than 30 times since the accident. Soon he is rolling across the causeway toward Miami’s South Beach, past the silhouettes of nfl jerseys cruise ships and darkened husks of harbor cranes until, at last, he reaches the point where Donte’ Stallworth’s(notes) car hit a crane operator named Mario Reyes as Reyes dashed across the highway right before dawn more than a year ago. Then Boucher stares into the gauzy light and tries to understand what it felt like that morning when Reyes died and his friend’s life would never be the same. Yet understanding doesn’t bring comfort. He sighed into the phone one recent afternoon. Everything that happened on and resulted from the morning of March 14, 2009, is so incongruous with the man he knows: Stallworth, legally drunk with a blood alcohol content level of .12, subsequently was arrested, convicted, sentenced and suspended from football.
Overshadowed, though, is what Stallworth did after it was clear he had accidentally killed a man with his car. He ordered his lawyers to accept a plea deal that convicted him of a felony even when evidence showed he had an excellent chance of being found innocent. He said Reyes’ death was enough of his fault that there shouldn’t be a trial and Reyes’ family shouldn’t have to sit in a courthouse and relive his death all over again.
“He did the right thing,” said Boucher, who has known Stallworth since his rookie year of 2002. “I’m more proud of him as a friend for the way he handled this than I was before this situation happened.”
Perhaps, in this world of athletes who can’t be trusted, it is hard to believe Donte’ Stallworth is getting a second chance at football. An athlete convicted of second-degree felony manslaughter is rarely worthy of our respect. Michael Vick(notes) and Plaxico Burress(notes) spent far longer time in jail than Stallworth’s 24 days – and they never killed another person. But in the aftermath of one bad decision came many good ones. And it is on those which we should judge too.

“He could have taken 15 different approaches,” Boucher said. “He could have had people persuade him to take a more aggressive [defensive] position. He wouldn’t do that. He took responsibility.
“His biggest concern was for the gentleman’s daughter. He wanted [Reyes’] family to know he was remorseful.”
Over and over, members of Stallworth’s elite team of attorneys shouted at him to fight the charges. They said there was no way to prove who was at fault. Reyes, after all, dashed across a busy freeway to catch a bus near a green light that rarely turns red. There was other evidence, never released to the public, Boucher said, that the lawyers wanted to give that would aid Stallworth’s case. Still he said no.
“The irony,” said one of Stallworth’s attorneys, David Cornwell, “is that a lot of the media and public was angry with the deal that he took. And the thing they wanted, for him to go to trial, was the thing he was trying to avoid for the family.”

“Any little decision you make will have a subsequent reaction,” he said softly. “Be cognizant of your decisions.”
He said he says this to everyone he meets now: teammates, friends, children.
Then he added: “With guys being on the stage and the amount of money we get, you tend to trust that certain things will happen to you in life. It’s only human nature to think that way.”
But he is quick to say he never thought of himself as entitled. He never saw himself falling out of control. He simply made a bad decision – one he wishes he could take back, one he knows he can never fully repair.
On that morning he woke up thirsty, a source close to Stallworth said. He looked around his apartment for water. Finding none and seeing it was almost morning, he decided to go for breakfast. Minutes later, his car collided with Reyes.
“Everything has been challenged,” Stallworth said. “My faith has been tested. My character has been tested. I try to think positive for everybody.”

When he was with the Saints, his first NFL team, and Katrina roared through New Orleans, he was one of the most active players in the rebuilding. Even after the Saints traded him to Philadelphia before their first season back in the Superdome, he kept returning, offering support.
In his year away from football, he read. He loves politics. Cornwell remembers walking into Stallworth’s apartment and spying a biography of John Foster Dulles lying on the coffee table.
“Are you reading this?” Cornwell asked. Stallworth nodded.
But Stallworth’s particular fascination during his time away became 9-11. Almost a decade after the attacks, he is obsessed with the way the world turned and policy changed that day.
“I don’t know how to say this nicely, but everything’s a conspiracy to him,” Boucher said with a laugh.
Stallworth shook his head at the thought. But he admitted he has read most of Miami Dolphins jersey the Sept. 11 theories out there. He has opinions. Browns’ Sorensen OK after being carted off field
DETROIT (AP)—The Cleveland Browns were relieved Nick Sorensen(notes) seemed to make a quick recovery from a scary situation.
Sorensen was sprinting down the nfl throwback jerseys field after a kickoff when he was blocked simultaneously by Caleb Campbell(notes) and Andre Fluellen(notes) of the Detroit Lions in a preseason game.
That hit sent him to his back and led to him being carted off the field and taken to a hospital.
Browns coach Eric Mangini said tests were negative and he was on his way back from the hospital soon after Detroit’s 35-27 preseason victory.

Season over for Jared DeVries
The veteran defensive lineman was placed on injured reserve today with a knee issue, ending his season for the second straight year, according to Dave Birkett of nfl jerseys the Detroit Free Press. DeVries missed last season when he suffered a torn Achilles tendon, and it is certainly fair to wonder whether this will mark the end of a career for the 34-year-old.
The Lions also waived/injured safety David Roach(notes), who they had claimed off waivers from the St. Louis Rams less than two weeks ago. The specific nature of his injury is not known.

But I liked the site and thought it did a good job of marketing itself. From all appearances, they are very successful.
The next site I looked at was junk. So were the next 8 or 10. I gave up and left. But the more I thought about what I had seen, the more pissed off I became. I also got curious about just what else was there. Surely, it couldn't all be that bad. As it turns out, it was.
So if you are looking for some kind words and praise, forget it. I have never seen so much crap in all my life. In total, I found two sites that were worthy of the 'Marketing' label. Two out of 178. Yuck!

I know it is all the rage to use gray fonts to cut down on eye strain, but these sites gave me a headache trying to find the text on the page. Some of it was so small it must have been in 6 point type. Put the two together and you have given your visitors a great reason to hit the easy-to-find Back button. I certainly didn't waste any time.

Followed by a list of no less than thirty things they specialize in. You must be joking! You call that specializing? First rule of online marketing: Don't try to be all things to all people. Pick the one or two things (max three) you do well and/or are the most lucrative and specialize in those. If you try to be an expert in everything, you are an expert in nothing. Get off the web.

Especially on links. Who are you writing your copy for, yourself? There are such things as clients, you know. Or maybe you don't. No matter if I already know the answer, I ask it anyway: "In three words or less, tell me what business you are in." I guess that's a question. Anyway, if they can't answer in three words, work with them until they can. This is important. It has to do with focus. You don't want them to name ten things they do. If they do many things, get the most important. Save the others for other websites or pages.
Next, use that core business as the seed for keyword research. Make a short list of keywords that meet the four critical rules of keywords:
Relevant to the business
1. Good Traffic – Notice that I didn't say searches. That's different
2. Low Competition – Not too many competing documents
3. High Monetization – They are profitable to pursue
Don't guess at keywords. Don't choose keywords you think people search for and certainly don't use keywords you would search for. That will ensure your business fails before it even starts. That's why we do research, to eliminate guessing. We want proven, hard numbers behind our decisions.

Good, that means there is a market for the product or service. And while you are doing this, look for other keywords you and the search engines might have missed. Now, build a marketing plan for each of the keywords. Use the information gathered from above. Address issues, offer solutions, define goals and benchmarks. Do not include selling.
Starting with the best keyword, (The one that best meets the four criteria) write content around the subject. Do not sell. Make your content informative, educational, and/or helpful. Address issues and offer solutions as defined above. Continue with other keywords, working your way down the list.
Decide on a theme and select colors and graphics to support the theme.
Now and only now are we ready to start building a site or a new page. Start with your most important subject/keyword and build a basic page. Name it WhateverTheKeywordIs.htm or whatever. But use the keyword as the page name. Be sure the keyword appears in the title, meta tags, headlines and copy body. But refrain from keyword stuffing. You won't have to.
